1st Week Ramadhan 2008

Praise to Him, we are past the first week of Ramadhan. Lets hope the following weeks we will be better than we were previously. I heard a short sermon just now and thought I would share it with my fellow readers in faith. I am no scholar nor a preacher. It is simply to act as a gentle reminder to all, but importantly to myself first and foremost.

Eleven months since the last Ramadhan, how much time and events have passed since then. How much sins and wrongs we have done since then. How too forgetful we have been. How too ungrateful we have been towards Him. How deep we have drowned. Committing vices knowingly or unknowingly, often time failing to realise any of it.

We forget who we are. We forget who created us. We forget how and where we come from. We forget who has given us this air to breathe, the food and drinks we consume, the roof over our heads, the wisdom in our minds, the emotions in our hearts, the luxuries that we enjoy, this precious life that we are bestowed upon.

We forget it is He who is the creator and designer of all life. It is He who has the power to take away our fragile lives any moment He desires. It is He who has the power to bestow us the pain and suffering for all the wrongs we do in this world. It is He who has the ability to take anything and everything away in an instance.

But it is also He who is the most patient towards everything, especially His loving creations. It is also He who is the most loving of all. It is also He who is the most forgiving. It is also He who is the most closest to us than any other living things in this world. Even closer to us than our own selves, closer than the main vein on our necks.

Such is His graciousness, He designed this month specially to cleanse our souls. Presenting us countless opportunities to submerge from this murky worldly darkness. Thirty days a month, twenty-four hours a day, every minute and second, the gates of repentance are wedged wide open, ready to welcome and embrace anyone willing to submit to Him.

Therefore, grab this priceless opportunity to redeem ourselves in this world and thereafter. Carry out any duties, obligations and responsibilities with a sincere heart and pure intention, with His will, our deeds will be accounted for. Wish, pray, ask, beg and hope only the best for ourselves, our parents, our family, our ummah and any of our love ones.

For all we know, it might be our last Ramadhan ever, it might be our last day of living, it might even be our last hour, minute and second to live. But do not fear death, fear Him and fear that we might never get the chance to fully redeem ourselves. It is time then to wake up to the light and to seek the truth within us that we have often evaded.

It is He that we must turn to during our joys and even sorrows. With His will, during this Ramadhan He will grant us much needed calmness, strength, valor, patience, health, wealth, knowledge, wisdom, drive, determination, love, forgiveness and faith. Do not waste this precious time then by idling and continuing with our vices.

So do good in school/work, be good in character and actions towards others, eat healthy (Halal) food to give us energy and eagerness to stay good. Never give up hope, pin everything on Him, trust His judgment and let faith do the rest. Do as much good as we can, believe we will carry on for months to come till the next Ramadhan.

With His will, it will not be in vain. May we all then, find the meaning of our existence. Amin.
