Movie Review - Indiana Jones KOTCS

Image via ComingSoon.net

Indy’s back (since a couple days ago) ladies and gentlemen in this fourth installment, Indiana Jones – The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. They’re famous for such long titles aren’t they, makes titling this post a bit of a bitch. That aside then.

Review

My reviews are always (at least I try to be) spoiler-free. Don’t worry, I’ll warn if there’s any.

If you were living in a cave in the last 20 years or so or weren’t born yet back then, you must’ve somehow by now heard of the Indy franchise yeah, the brainchild of George Lucas himself. If not, then I’d rather you crawl back to that hole of yours.

To those who grew up watching Indy like me, rejoice. Everyone’s favourite iconic hat-wearing whip-slashing archaeologist (some say spy) is back! Not necessarily better, but evidently much older. However, new wonder kid on the block, Shia LaBeouf (Trasnformers, Disturbia) injects a fresh and much needed youthfulness to the aging franchise. Surprisingly, Cate Blanchett pulls off as a saucy Soviet villain as well.

It still has the classic archaeological adventure, action pack sequences, mysticism and Indy humour. Unfortunately, I felt it has gone down a gear compared to the earlier adventures. Granted it’s fiction, you’ve to leave a bit of logic at the door before you enter if you were to appreciate it. There are however lots of easter eggs references to earlier movies and also to Lucas other major project, yes Star Wars that fans will notice and enjoy.

Summary

If anything else, watch it for nostalgia. It has been twenty years, though wrinkly Ford may be, once you see that hat, whip and hear that memorable theme song by music maestro John Williams, you can’t help but feel a little excitement and reminisce the earlier adventures. If you’re a fan, then this is must-watch no matter what. If you’re not, it’s still entertaining and worth your bucks to catch it on the big screen. This movie felt like a closing chapter, but knowing Lucas, there might just be another 2 sequels to complete the dual trilogy.

So hang on to your whips then!

Verdict

Rating: 7.5/10
Must watch if you’re a fan. Still entertaining and worth it if you’re not.
