Movie Review - Iron Man
Wednesday May 7, 2008

Iron Man is definitely just one of the blockbusters to catch this month, as mentioned in the earlier entry. The second half of this year is already looking like an exciting couple of months for movie / comic / Marvel fans alike.
Review
My reviews are always (at least I try to be) spoiler-free. Don’t worry, I’ll warn if there’s any.

I’ve read a little about the storyline and how Tony Stark became who he is, weeks before the movie launch. But I’ve never followed the comics. Honestly, I didn’t care much about the plot. After watching trailers, I went solely for the visual feast. And boy, the rumoured 200 million dollars definitely went into some awesome use.
Visual effects aside, casting was top notch. For me, Robert Downy Jr has a certain charm and he nailed the character, a natural for the role. Surprisingly, the direction did the storyline justice. Making past Marvel flukes such as Hulk, Venom, Daredevil, Elecktra quickly forgotten. And if you’re a Marvel fan, you’ll enjoy the little cameos and references.

Sidetracked
Iron Man toy-line was out weeks before the movie launched and back then I was already seriously contemplating to get the action figures. After watching the movie hours ago, I’m definitely gonna get them now, even though I’m not a serious Marvel follower. Such is the ‘coolness’ of the movie (in fact it made the comic character much cooler) that I’m willing to go out of my comfort zone.
Then again I’m an avid toy collector (read: geek) to begin with.
Summary
That said, if you’re thinking whether you should blow your hard earned bucks on a movie this weekend, then this is it. With cool characters and storyline, rocking rock riffs that compliment the action packed sequences and awesome visual effects, you’ll definitely be entertained that’s for sure, at the very least. Oh and stay tune after the credits. And if you enjoyed it like I did, then post here let me know and we shall bask in our geeky glory.
Till the next blockbuster then!

Verdict
Rating: 8.5/10
Must watch. Worth your penny. Stay after the credits. Always room for improvement, in the sequel. Heck, even my Missus enjoyed it, so it’s definitely worth checking out.
