Music Review - Jason Mraz

Artwork via JasonMraz.net

I was introduced only recently earlier in the year by the Missus and boy where have I been? This young pop-soul-jazz-folk induced singer song writer is one helluva talented musician. His music is as chilled and laid back as the man himself.

Review

His new third album titled We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things launches today. I have heard EP tracks and leaked songs from the album online and damn, all I can say is, if you love his previous two albums, then you’re gonna love love this. Heck I’m definitely supporting this talented musician by getting the physical album copy.

Lyrics as always, are well written and meaningful. His magical voice is still intact and songs are melodious as ever. If you think his studio recordings are awesome, now wait till you see him perform live! Well, I haven’t as I missed his outtake in Singapore couple of years back. But if he’s ever coming back, the Missus will definitely be dragging me down to his concert. (or perhaps it’ll be the other way round?)

Sidetracked

Just check out this video above recorded from one of his shows in Korea with the equally impressive percussionist cum back-up singer, Mr Toca. Yes, he is that technically and musically gifted (applies to both men), I know, but not only that, the man has some sense of humour and does an awesome job of entertaining as well.

Summary

If you’re a music fan who wears his/her particular genre on your sleeve, then this might not be for you nor will it be guaranteed to be your cup of tea. However, if you can appreciate music as a whole, everything from the song writing up to his pitch-perfect humming and whistling, then you’ll probably agree it’s one of the best album of the year.

Mr Mraz, congratulations, the Missus and I are both, yours, yours, yours once again.

Verdict

Rating: 9/10
Brilliant. Never judge music by a wacky album cover.
