Oasis In Three Days
Thursday April 2, 2009

Probably the iconic British rock band of the (mid-late) nineties. If you grew up in that period, you probably have heard and memorised by hard at least one of their singles from the earlier (best) three albums. I was probably too young and cash-less for concerts back then so it was a no-brainer when I heard they were coming to our little island.
Naturally, prior to concerts I’d sample some of their latest songs to get accustomed to the new tunes. And since they’re going to plug their recent album anyways, doesn’t hurt to do so. Their last album I bought was Heathen Chemistry (2002) but honestly, Be Here Now was the last album I religiously tuned in to, and still do! Personally, I feel their sound and style is their trademark yet their downfall. So it’s either you love them still or fucking hate them completely. Oh, and a cool new album art to boot as well.

The lack of experimental sounds, chord progressions and melodies was really suspect since the last few albums. It was all acoustic, drums and bass (as quoted below) through out and it got boring and monotonous. However, I gave Dig Out Your Soul (recent album) a go and somehow liking a couple of songs after few listenings. It is indeed reminiscent of Be Here Now, and that album was fucking brilliant to me.
In Noel’s own words…
All the tunes I’ve written recently have been on the kind of acoustic side, you know? But for the next record I really fancy doing a record where we just completely throw the kitchen sink at it. We haven’t done that since Be Here Now. I’d like to get, like, a 100-piece orchestra and choirs and all that stuff. I think since Standing on the Shoulder of Giants we’ve been trying to prove a point of just bass, drums, guitar and vocals and nothing fancy. But I kind of like fancy! I’d like to make an absolutely fucking colossal album. You know? Like literally two orchestras, stuff like that.
So far I’m fancying tracks like The Shock of the Lightning, Falling Down, Soldier On for their pure rock-ness and rawness that is Oasis. Perhaps I was jaded on their last few albums, went MIA, came back and really did me good. They really do sound fresher than they’ve been for the last fucking decade. They’re fucking back! Ok, maybe not to their best, but they’re fucking gonna be here! So, that plus an opportunity to finally rock-on live (with a rocker-chick) to their older tracks justifies this rave.
Lets hope the concert will live up to my hype.
