True Essence Of Aidilfitri

Yesterday marked the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan for all Muslims. Today then, is the start of a new month, Aidifitri or Hari Raya, a joyous occasion to celebrate the end of the fulfilling fasting month. Hearing the solemn takbir after breaking fast is a such a moving moment every single year. Reminiscing of the past years of events and people, who are still here and those who have passed away, slowly lingered and crawled back into memory. Tears of joy and sadness immediately filled the eyes.

Flickering decoration lights, varieties of dishes, snacks, expensive clothes etc. However, amidst all this, let us not forget the true essence of Aidilfitri, lets not forget about the poor, the homeless, the kids at the orphanage and the elderly at the old folks home. They haven’t got the luxury that we too often take for granted – a shelter above our heads, a family, new clothing, good food etc. Come next year on this same date, in this unpredictable life, our loved ones or even we ourselves might not be here in this world anymore.

So this Aidilfitri, lets share what we have with everyone and celebrate it moderately. Have a moment everyday to remind ourselves, to be grateful and thankful of how lucky we are to be where, what and who we are today. Amin. To all my loved ones and friends, if I have said, offended and did anything to hurt your feelings all this while, please grant my sincere and humble forgiveness. Selamat Hari Raya.
