Unable to Support New Security Features
Friday January 2, 2009
Due to system limitation, our system is unable to support the new security features found on IE7 and FireFox 3.0 and above. In order to access these forms, we recommend to use a lower browser version or disable SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 on the new browser.
I got this trying to email DBS iBanking customer support via their feedback form while on Firefox (FF) browser. I had to resort to using an older (read: unsecured & unstable) version of Internet Explorer (IE) instead. What. The. Fugg?
In the web design & development world, telling your valued customers to disable some functions on their browser is blasphemy, what more telling them to use a lower and older browser version. Granted its only their feedback form but we’re not talking about some granny’s recipe website here, it’s a damn bank portal for christ sake where online monetary transaction happen all the time.
But non user-friendliness aside. You might think it’s a trivial matter and might not affect the overall security of the transactions but it does beg the question of: what impression does it leave on the brand’s image (secured banking specialist) when simple security elements like these can’t be fixed due to “system limitations”?
Limitations my arse.
In this day and age, if you’re still using IE you should be smitten. Why? Because as of December there is a major new security flaw that affects all versions of Internet Explorer from IE5 to the latest beta of IE8. Even upgrading to the latest version won’t help. I’ve been advocating these since its conception. So, please go do yourself a huge favour and upgrade to a more safer and faster browser such as Firefox or Opera.
I really tip my hat to those dedicated non-profitable people behind these two browsers who actually gives a hoot about making the web safer for people like you and me unlike a certain corporation (Micro$oft) who seems is only out to milk more money.
I did my part, so now you do yours.

Good. And your response makes me sound like a generic public service announcement…
